KUCHING: Sarawak Brigade Ex-Police Field Force Welfare Association president DCP (retired) Dato Aba R. Huk has described the statement by PAS deputy president Mohamed Sabu as extremely provocative and disturbing.

Speaking to The Borneo Post through the phone yesterday, he said that Mohamed Sabu should not have made such remarks as it insults the feelings of those who fought hard for the freedom of the country.

“Being a politician he should just concentrate on politics and leave history to historians. If you touch on something which you are not familiar with you will tend to get your facts wrong,” he said. He said this when commenting on a recent statement by the PAS leader, who, during a talk in Tasek Gelugor, Penang, on Aug 21, was quoted as claiming that the communist terrorists who attacked and killed the policemen in Bukit Kepong in the 50’s were the real heroes as they were the country’s freedom fighters.

To this, Aba said that to say the communists were freedom fighters was in fact very misleading and the statement should be rectified.

“Communists are always communists. They were fighting against the government of the day with the intention of becoming the new ruler.

“They fought against the government by bringing in foreign ideology and this was different from those who fought very hard for independence,” he said.

Aba was not the only one hitting out at Mohamed Sabu for his uncalled for statement.

Many senior politicians, including DAP chairman Karpal Singh condemned the PAS leader for what he had said.
