KAPIT: A Long Singgut man in his 30s was brutally stabbed to death during a fight with foreign workers near an entertainment outlet here early yesterday morning.

Police have arrested five suspects and are now on a manhunt for others believed to be involved in the incident.

Kapit OCPD DSP Entusa Iman told a press conference that the man was killed at around 2.30am near Jalan Yong Mok Chai.

“A group of Indonesians quarrelled with two Kenyah men, who came from Long Singgut, ulu Baleh. The motive of the quarrel is still unclear.

“During the quarrel, one of the Kenyah men in his 30s was stabbed in the lower chest with a sharp object and he died at the scene. The sharp object is believed to be a cock fighting spur known as ‘taji’,” he said.

He added that the prime suspect and a few others are still at large.

The foreign workers are believed to be employees of logging camps.

The victim’s body was sent to the Kapit Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Entusa added that this was the first case of violent crime in Kapit this year.

He appealed to members of the public to help police track the suspects by calling 084-796222.
