KUANTAN: Some 800 members of Malaysian Ex-Policemen Association (PBPM) Kuantan branch yesterday lodged a police report against Mohamad Sabu for claiming that communist terrorists were the real independence heroes.

The report which followed a protest against the PAS deputy president was made at Kuantan district police headquarters (IPD) here.

Kuantan PBPM secretary Rafai Abdul Kadir said the association was very disappointed, hurt and insulted with Mohamad Sabu’s statement as members fought the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) for decades.

He said they trudged the jungles in Ops Indera in western Pahang, Ops Kota Echo in Perak and Ops Doayai Musnah 2 in Sadao, Thailand to fight CPM.

“We left our families and did not ask for any rewards but want the service to be appreciated. Some sacrificed their lives to keep the country’s peace.”

The association wanted Mohamad Sabu hauled under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for trying to disrupt national harmony by making a misleading statement.

Mohamad Sabu reportedly told a rally in Tasek Gelugor, Penang on Aug 21 that CPM’s 4th Company which attacked Bukit Kepong in Feb 1950, killing 25 soldiers and their families were heroes as the victims were soldiers of the British colonial army. — Bernama
