KUCHING: Former Belawai assemblyman Datuk Hamden Ahmed has ruled out the possibility of a return to active politics.

He told reporters on Sunday night that he has no intention to contest in any seat in the coming parliamentary election.

Even if there is any opening, he said opportunities should go to younger leaders from PBB.

“I still support (Barisan Nasional) … but to be in the front line, no more. I have been there for 25 years and I think that’s enough for me,” he said.

Hamden who is also the managing director of Sarawak Plantation Berhad (SPB) was asked to comment on talks that he could contest in a parliamentary seat after launching the SPB’s Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event at Grand Magherita on Sunday night.

A former assistant minister, Hamden had served as assemblyman since 1996. He ceased to serve as an assemblyman when he failed to be nominated in last April’s state election.

On another matter, Hamden is confident that his successor, Datuk Len Talif, is capable of running his responsibilities well in Belawai.

According to him, Len Talif, a former senior government officer, is well experienced and for that he is confident that he (Len Talif) can carry out his responsibilities as a community leader.

“I am confident that he is a responsible person and together with his experience, I believe that he will serve the people the best he can,” he said.
