KANGAR: A woman rushed into a burning wooden house on the verge of collapse in Bukit Temiang near here today and saved her ailing mother and two grandchildren in a daring rescue.

Che Jaezah Saidun, 45, said she was grateful to God that she was able to rescue her mother, Habibah Safar, 70, and her grandchildren, Tengku Putra Shakirin Mohd Nordin, five, and Tengku Putri Sofia, three.

The 1.30pm fire destroyed the house, two cars, a van and a motorcycle.

Che Jaezah said she was at her house nearby when her mother’s house caught fire.

She ran into the burning house and first brought out her mother, who had recently undergone surgery, and then rushed in again to bring out the children.

Other members of the family were at work at that time, Che Jaezah said.

Kangar Fire and Rescue chief Johari Othman told reporters at the scene that firemen arrived within 15 minutes after being notified at 1.40pm.

He said damage was estimated at RM70,000, and that the cause of the fire was being investigated. — Bernama
