One more ‘Ops Payung’area in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Police here yesterday launched a new location for their ‘Ops Payung’ to bring the number of locations to 14.

The new location at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) building in Jalan Kiambang will further boost security in the town, said district police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat.

He said police with the assistance of Civil Defence Department personnel will patrol the area and keep an eye on cars parked there.

He said a notice will be issued to motorists who are found to have left their cars unlocked or left valuables in their cars.

This approach would make car owners more safety cautious and help prevent theft, he said.

‘Ops Payung’ brings policing services closer to the people, making it easier for them to obtain assistance or lodge a report without going to a police station.

According to Shamsudin, every crime must have three characteristics, namely criminals, victims and the opportunity to commit crime.

As awareness of the characteristics will make it easier to prevent crime, he urged the public to play a role by cooperating with the police.

He said it is important for the public to immediately inform the police of any criminal activities at their areas so that they could deal with them immediately.

“I hope with the existence of ‘Ops Payung’ at this area, the public will feel more secure in conducting their daily activities and criminal activities could be reduced and prevented,” he added.
