KLANG: Supermarkets are encouraged to provide facilities, like a playland for children, to enable parents to shop in comfort.

Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said the supermarkets could set up the playland by adopting various concept, such as to educate children on the importance of preserving the environment and on consumerism.

“The playland is not just for entertainment, but also to instill general knowledge among children so that they will grow up to become smart and responsible consumers.

“It should also be equipped with toys which are safe for children and approved by the ministry. The children should also be supervised to prevent any untoward incidents,” she told reporters after opening the Molly Fantasy playland at the Bukit Tinggi Jusco supermarket here today.

Earlier in her speech, Rohani said the Molly Fantasy playland at the Jusco supermarket was the first in the country and that the facility would provide parents with an option to send their children while they shop.

“This playland is popular in several countries, including Japan, Hong Kong and China, and is suitable for children between three and 12 years old,” she added. — Bernama
