Sibuti MP disputes claims government neglects rural folk

MIRI: It is unfair for some quarters to claim that both federal and state governments have neglected the people on development, particular those living in suburbs and rural areas in the state.

Describing the accusation as nonsense, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang stressed the federal and state governments have put in great efforts to accelerate developments in these areas.

“Do not ever say that the federal and state governments have not carried out any development in your area while you have been enjoying the fruits of the development all this while.

“In fact, Vision 2020 has clearly stated that the development status in rural areas is equally important,” he stated during Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Kampung Bakam last Friday.

Ahmad Lai gave Kampung Bakam as one of fine examples where a number of houses have been built under the hardcore poor housing project (PPRT).

For the future, he said, the government has inked a comprehensive development map for Kampung Bakam.
Effort to extend the village road is one of the future projects that has been planned for the village, he added.

In order to make this project a reality, he is seeking total support from the people.

“What we need is perhaps for you to sacrifice a little part of your land for the roads extension project.

“If you are not willing to do so, the road at Kampung Bakam will remain narrow.

“It is because one has to pay for the cost of development for the benefit of all, especially the younger generations,” he remarked.

“Let’s us work together as a team, like you had done with ex- Lambir assemblyman Datuk Aidan Wing. Only such a commitment will help accelerate the transformation of  Bakam,” he added.

He later announced a grant worth RM25,000 under Minor Rural Project (MRP) for the construction of the Bakam fish market. With the allocation, the fish market project, he said, will start by next month.

Also present at the function were Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Lambir branch deputy chairman Julani Mokhtar, organising chairman Abdul Rahim Unsang and community heads.
