Two men slashed in separate attacks

KUCHING: Two separate attacks, which saw two men being slashed with sharp weapons, occurred almost simultaneously near Bangunan Baitulmakmur in Petra Jaya around midnight yesterday.

One of the incidents took place when a group numbering around 10 men set upon a 27-year-old man and his 17-year-old friend while the two were having a discussion.

The elder victim, from Kampung Panglima Seman, said he was slashed with sharp weapons — possibly a cockspur and a machete — numerous times on the back as he tried to flee the area, while his teenage friend was punched and kicked by the group.

Both of them managed to escape and sought refuge behind a petrol station in the area, where they then called for an ambulance.

The victims also claimed not to know the group or the motive behind the attack.

The second incident, meanwhile, took place when a youth from Jalan Astana was attacked by six persons while he was hanging out with friends near a man-made lake.

The 23-year-old victim said he and four friends were sitting by the lake when up to six unknown persons suddenly appeared and chased after them.

While his friends were able to escape, the victim was not so fortunate as the group caught up with him and swung a sharp weapon at him.

The youth managed to raise his left palm to deflect the blow, resulting in a deep gash, before sprinting away from his attackers, who themselves turned back and left the area.

Accompanied by his friends, the victim later sought treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital.
