LAWAS: Datuk Henry Sum Agong’s good track record in serving the people of Lawas makes him the perfect candidate to be renominated to defend the constituency for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

Giving this resounding endorsement was Bukit Sari assemblyman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan who is also senior vice-president of PBB, the backbone of state BN.

Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management and Minister of Public utilities, said this in his speech at the Raya gathering at Kampung Sualai in Lawas on Saturday night.

Present were Sum, Awang Tengah’s wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Lawas district officer Mohd Supaih Hamdan and heads of departments in Lawas district.

He pointed out that Sum has been the best MP by working tirelessly for the people and was always alert to their needs and aspirations, while stressing that there was no need to change the candidate.

Sum has been Lawas MP for three terms since 1999, including two as MP for Bukit Mas parliamentary constituency before it was divided into Lawas and Limbang constituencies.

Awang Tengah also urged constituents in Lawas not to act based on emotions but instead use reasoning, as doing otherwise would be detrimental and might cause splits between them.

“Avoid extreme or parochial form of politics which surfaced in the last state election and take a leaf from the chaos which is now seen in countries such as Egypt, Syria and other Middle East countries due to the people’s eagerness for leadership change without knowing the implications on the majority of the people,” he said.

Later, Awang Tengah announced an allocation of RM10,000 for the purchase of chairs and other items for the village’s community hall.
