KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu has made early preparations, in terms of food supply, forward bases, evacuation centres, etc, to face the monsoon season expected to hit the state in November.

State Security Council secretary, Mohd Tarmizi Dan, said the state disaster management and relief committee held a meeting last week to discuss the preparations and other measures to be taken should Terengganu be hit by floods.

Speaking to reporters after the National Security Council Hari Raya celebration here yesterday, he said the council had set up 112 forward bases and identified 347 evacuation centres which could accommodate 51,745 flood victims.

He said most of the forward bases, totalling 32, was in the Hulu Terengganu district, followed by Besut (26), Kemaman and Setiu (15 each), Marang (13), Dungun (9) and Kuala Terengganu (2).

He said a supply storage depot had also been identified in Pulau Kerengga, Marang, to ensure smooth distribution of aid during the monsoon season.

The state government, he added, had set up a website, etindakan.terengganu.gov.my, where the public could obtain information on the floods in the state. — Bernama
