MIRI: Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang on Sunday made it clear that elected representatives have no say in decisions pertaining to public tender projects.

All decisions on which company get the projects being tendered out were in the hands of the relevant government bodies.

“We (YBs) have nothing to do with the process of issuance of public tender projects. Government bodies such as the District Office and Resident’s office have been entrusted to take charge of such matters,” he said during a Hari Raya gathering at Kampung Tunku Abdul Rahman in Lambir community hall yesterday.

Ahmad Lai told those present that his primary role as an elected representative was to serve the rakyat with full commitment.

“I still remember what I had promised to the people during the last election. Believe me and continue to have strong faith in the BN,” he urged.

Ahmad said the rakyat must wise up and not be easily influenced by baseless accusations hurled against the government by the opposition, such as on the implementation of projects.

“The BN government will not give empty promises. All projects that had been promised would be implemented in stages.

“You just have to be more patient as project implementation normally would be carried out based on priority basis.”

He also urged the local authority and community leaders to help monitor closely the implementation of all government projects to ensure that they were all in proper order.

“We want the people to benefit from these projects. I won’t allow anyone to abuse government funds for personal interest.”

He cautioned that the government would not hesitate to act, including take legal action, if they catch anyone abusing its development funds.

Ahmad Lai also pledged to continue working closely with Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat to develop Sibuti.

Also present were deputy chairman of PBB Lambir, Julani Mokhtar; women chief of PBB Lambir, Zainani Salleh; and Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis.
