MATU: It is imperative for all Muslims to acquire good education and religious knowledge in order to become a progressive, dynamic and successful community, said Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie.

Additionally, Abu Seman said that it was also very important for the successful and better-off Muslims to reach out and share their wealth with the less fortunate members of their community, exercising their social responsibility and creating a peaceful and harmonious multi-racial society.

Abu Seman said this in his speech as guest-of-honour at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration organised by the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Bawang here last Saturday (Sept 10).

Abu Seman, who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister and hails from Kampung Bawang, called on the people from Matu district who are staying in urban areas, to come back and visit their parents and family members in their village regularly in order to
cement greater bond among their families, in line with the ‘menilik jawai’ (literally visiting one’s relatives and family members) culture practised by members of the community.

Among the highlights of the celebrations were presentation of ‘duit Raya’ and other gifts by Abu Seman and his wife Dayang Normaliza Awang Tambi and their two daughters to children from Kampung Bawang and nearby villages.

The celebration was also filled with entertainment activities comprising mainly of Hari Raya songs, a children’s singing competition, ‘bergendang’, ‘bermukun’ and a poco-poco dance aimed at promoting a greater unity and understanding among the local people.

Abu Seman also took the opportunity to call on the people in Jemoreng constituency and Matu district to stand united behind the caring Barisan Nasional (BN) government in order to enjoy greater development and prosperity.
