MIRI: Miri Malaysia Civil Defence Department (JPAM 3) on Monday got a new chief when Lieutenant (PA) Shaifu Nizam AB Rahman handed over duty to Lieutenant (PA) Madihi Habib at its operation room behind Miri Resident’s office yesterday.

Madihi from Lundu, Kuching had served as Sibu JPAM 3 chief for four years before being transferred to Miri.

Shaifu meanwhile will be transferred to Kuching after serving in Miri as JPAM 3 chief for five years.

Also present at yesterday’s ceremony was Miri JPAM 3 Team officer Lieutenant (PA) Iqbal Abdollah.

Shaifu met earlier in a press conference said he hoped the new chief could continue what he and Miri JPAM 3 had done.

He said a total of 327 cases were received by JPAM3 up to August this year.

“Those cases involved drownings, bee attacks and accidents to name a few,” explained Shaifu.

He said members of the public were less aware of JPAM3’s role so they did not received that many cases.

“We do get involved in rescue operations though not many members of the public know it,” Shaifu said.
