LATEST CT SCAN IN TOWN: Dr Alan (left), Jamilah and Dr Sim (second and third left respectively) check out the new CT scan at the SGH Heart Centre.

KUCHING: The installation of the RM6.7 million CT scan machine at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Heart Centre is now completed and only waiting for a licence before it can be used.

The machine is the latest, and there are only four units throughout the country.

Former SGH Heart Centre cardiologist Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian said the interesting feature of the machine was that scanning could be done in only a second compared with 10 seconds previously.

“We should thank the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) for keeping his promise. This is the second CT scan that we have. The one now being used at the SGH is the result of the effort of Sarawak Heart Foundation (SHF) in raising RM4 million to purchase the first CT scan,” he said.

He explained that he made the request to Najib when the latter launched the centre early this year, and that the new CT scan was delivered three weeks ago.

SGH Heart Centre cardiologist Dr Alan Fong said the installation was completed yesterday and it was now ready for use.

“We are only waiting for the licence which we expect should be ready within this week,” he said.

He said with the latest facility, the centre is considered to be one of the most modern in this region.

Also present to check on the final stage of the installation yesterday were other SHF board members, including Puan Sri Datuk Jamilah Anu.
