Customs seizes drugs found in women sandals

SEPANG: The Royal Malaysia Customs at the KL International Airport (KLIA) has uncovered the use of women sandals to smuggle drugs.

This followed the seizure of 397gm of syabu, worth RM100,000, and 211gm of heroin, worth RM40,000,
in three pairs of sandals found in a box which was to be sent via express delivery to an address in Indonesia.

KLIA Customs director Datuk M Govinden said check on the sender’s address written on the box found that it did not exist.

“The drug was seized on Sept 7 and we are tracing the identity of the sender through the post office where the parcel was sent,” he told reporters here yesterday.

In another case, Govinden said African man was detained on suspicion of attempting to smuggle 3.1kg of syabu, estimated at RM775,000, yesterday. — Bernama

The man, in his 30s, was detained about 7pm upon arrival at the KLIA on board flight Egypt Air from Cairo, he said, adding that US$ 3,000 was also seized from the suspect.

Govinden said his officers also seized a consignment of chewing tobacco which was declared as car air-freshener.

“The goods were seized at the gate of the KLIA Free Trade Zone on Sept 7 from a lorry. The lorry driver was also detained,” he added. — Bernama
