Cyber Security M’sia proposes review of policy

KUALA LUMPUR: Cyber Security Malaysia (CSM) has proposed that the National Cyber Security Policy (DKSN) be reviewed to emphasise on educational elements and strategies.

Chief executive officer Prof Datuk Husin Jazri said emphasis on educational elements is necessary because education will prevent consumers from being exploited and manipulated in cyberspace.

He said the existing DKSN is focused on security of the nation’s assets but not much on protecting the safety of internet users and strategies to help them.

“Given the increased incidents of cyber security, I think it is time to review DKSN.

“I understand that a review of DKSN has caught attention of the  government which is considering it, particularly under the National Security Council,” he said when interviewed in the ‘Kerusi Panas’ (Hot Seat) programme on Bernama Radio24 Monday night.

Husin said CSM will not set any Key Performance Index (KPI) to reduce cyber security incidents as statistics for the 10 past years showed that the cases had at least doubled.

Instead, CSM was targeting to reduce the rate of increase of cyber security incidents from 147 per cent currently to 50 per cent.

The target was adequate and could be considered a success due to the many  constraints faced by CSM. — Bernama
