KUCHING: A 15-year-old boy is believed by his family to have been possessed by spirits after he was found wandering in a daze on Monday night, some two hours after disappearing from his house.

The boy’s father, Zulaihe Saine, 41, said Mohd Sharizuan had been ‘disturbed’ by spirits since May on at least four separate occasions, resulting in the boy developing fits of rage at their Lorong Foochow 1Z house.

“He would never hurt anyone, but he would become really angry and would utter unintelligible words,” said Zulaihe, who works as a driver.

He said Sharizuan, who is the second of eight children, once told his family that he was being ‘controlled’ by three beings, in the form of two males and a female, who would ‘make’ him wander out of the house to a nearby river.

“We would take him to a bomoh after every episode, and each time we would hope that he has been cured only for it to happen again,” said Zulaihe, adding each episode would last anywhere between 30 minutes and a few hours.

In relating the latest incident, Zulaihe said he returned from work around 9.30pm and was told by an uncle that his son had had a recurrence and disappeared from home.

This brought about a frantic search involving the police and Tabuan Jaya firemen, which focused on the river where Sharizuan had previously wandered to.

However, there was no sight of the teen, leading his family to fear the worst until word came in that Sharizuan had been found and handed over to police.

A police spokesperson said a good Samaritan found the boy walking alone in a daze in front of the Tabuan Jaya fire station and brought him to the police station.

The slightly-built teen, who did not appear to suffer any physical injuries, did not utter a word and stared vacuously at everyone, including his father up to the point he was brought back home.

When asked what his next course of action would be, Zulaihe said he would bring Mohd Sharizuan to see a bomoh once more, but was open to trying other options, if it meant curing his son.
