KOTA KINABALU:   In conjunction with the Merdeka month, students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pulau Gaya used rice grains to create the biggest Jalur Gemilang (national flag) in the state.

It took them just one day to produce the Jalur Gemilang measuring 11.1 metres long and five metres wide.

Unfortunately, their creation failed to make it into the Malaysia Guiness Book of Records.

Nevertheless, Sabah information director Almain Ajirul praised the students for their effort in creating the flag with rice grains.

“Although they failed to get into the Malaysia Guiness Book Of Records, Malaysians should be proud of the national flag which symbolises our pride and patriotism that could strengthen nation building of all races, religions and cultures,” he said.

Almain was speaking at the launch of the school’s Merdeka month celebrations here yesterday.   – Bernama
