Two youths killed in accidents

PENAMPANG: Two youngsters were killed in separate accidents here and in Sandakan, one of them believed to be victim of a hit and run who was coincidentally found by family members at the scene.

Husin Mahadul, 16, succumbed to serious head injuries at Jalan Penampang Lama near the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd transformer here on Monday after a vehicle knocked him down while crossing the road around 9.30pm on Monday.

He was found lying on the road by family members who were passing by the area. They took him to the Luyang Hospital but he was pronounced dead by doctors.

The family members then lodged a police report with the Penampang police headquarters around midnight the same day.

Penampang police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh, when contacted yesterday, confirmed the incident and said it would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1962.

“I urge the vehicle driver to come forward to assist us in our investigation,” he said.

He also urged eyewitnesses to come forward or contact the Penampang traffic police at 088-712 222 to assist in the investigation.

The fatal accident at Mile 8, Jalan Ulu Sibuga, Sandakan yesterday claimed the live of a local man in his 20s.

The victim was seriously injured in his face and head in the 5.30pm incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was riding his motorcycle very fast and lost control of the machine.

The victim died of injury to his head as he was not wearing any helmet at the time of accident.

District police chief ACP Rowell Marang confirmed the incident and advised motorcyclists to put on their helmets and abide by traffic rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, two deaths were recorded and 958 motorists were issued with summonses for various offences during the OPS Sikap 24 from August 23 to this September carried out in conjunction with the Hari Raya Puasa and Aidilfitri.
