Finalists receive last minute briefing on competitions

PENAMPANG: Finalists of the ‘Pertandingan Piala Mahir Menyulam Siling Tan Sri Bernard Dompok’ and the ‘Pertandingan Menjahit Singer 2011’ yesterday received a last minute briefing on the do’s and don’ts on the day of the finals.

The finals and prize presentations of both competitions will be held at the Pusat Cemerlang P.174 Penampang New World Commercial Centre here on September 17 during the centre’s annual fund raising bazaar.

According to Pusat Cemerlang treasurer Lydia John, the 15 finalists of the Siling making competition and the Singer sewing competition would be required to show their skills on September 17.

“They have two hours from 7.30am to impress the judges,” she said when met at the Pusat Cermerlang P174 yesterday.

According to Lydia, the Siling making contest winner this year would receive the challenge trophy, cash prize of RM1,500, trophy, a hamper and a certificate while those judged second and third place winners would each receive RM1,000 cash and RM800 cash respectively, trophies, hampers and certificates.

The others would each receive consolation prizes of RM200 cash, a trophy, hamper and certificates, she said.

Meanwhile Singer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s Gaya branch manager Gomez Sim Kwong Kiang said out of the 60 over entries, they had chosen the best 20 finished products and 10 of the entrants had qualified for the finals.

“The winner will take home Singer’s award winning model 8280 sewing machine while the second place winner will receive Singer’s model 1519 sewing machine.

“The prize for the third place winner is an oven while those in fourth and fifth places will be presented with a gas cooker and hand mixer respectively,” he said adding that all 20 finalists would receive a prize for their participation in the sewing competition jointly organised by Singer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd through its Gaya branch, United Pasokmomogun KadazanDusun Murut Organization (UPKO) Penampang division’s Women movement and the Pusat Cemerlang P.174, Penampang.

Lydia also extended the organisor’s invitation to the public to attend the prize presentation ceremony as it is part of the programs lined up during the centre’s annual fund raising bazaar which will be held on the same day.

The bazaar would be held on the street in front of the centre, she said adding that the final and prize presentation for the children’s karaoke competition would also be held at the venue.

Coupons for the bazaar are now available at the Pusat Cemerlang P.174 Penampang and would also be sold on the day of the event, she said.
