12 beauties make it through the first round

INTO THE NEXT ROUND: The twelve who made it through the first round audition.

MIRI: Twelve girls made in through first round audition for Miss Borneo Beautiful 2011 here, yesterday.

The organiser, Alaric’s Productions Company is running this annual beauty pageant for the third year running.

Alaric Soh said the annual event had attracted more participants this year and a total of 205 was be expected for the two venues, Miri and Kuching.

“This beauty contest does not mainly emphasise on the physical figure, but also the inner beauty as well as the personality of the contestants,” he said.

He added that it was often assumed that beauty contests were only for those with perfect physical figure.

Sarawak had many girls who had the potential to represent the nation but they lacked support and confidence.

“We, as the organiser, can provide the platform for them to fulfil their potential and guide them,” he added.

He believed beauty pageants could expose the contestants to the real world of interaction with the community.

Miri was chosen as the venue for the contestants from the northern region of the state.

Meanwhile, the Kuching grooming session and audition will be held today at Riverside Majestic Hotel from 10am to 5pm to cater to participants from the Southern region covering Sibu, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Betong, Saratok and Kuching.

Single Sarawakians with the minimum height of 155cm between 17 to 25 years old and able to converse in English are eligible for the audition.

“Contestants will not be required to wear swimwear and the contest attire will be provided by the organiser,” Soh said.

For the first round audition, Soh revealed that looks, confidence and ability to communicate would be evaluated.

“During the semi-final session (Oct 1-2), the other criteria we’ll be looking at are performance and personality for qualification for the final round which is to be held in Kuching on November 18, 2011.”

There will be four subsidiary titles Miss Talent, Miss Friendship, Miss Photogenic and Miss Personality besides the main title.

The top three winners will also receive university scholarship worth RM11,000 each for a one year part-time course leading to the Executive Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism at USCI University Sarawak Campus in Kuching.

Earlier during the morning session, Alaric gave a beauty grooming talk for 25 contestants from here, Bintulu and Marudi from 10am to 1pm touching on communication, posture, make-up and attitude.
