KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said he would discuss the abandoned Tamparuli sports complex project with Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Jahid Jahim prior to announcing a decision.

He assured that the State Government would fulfill promises made to the people.

The government is said to have approved an allocation to build the sports complex in Tamparuli 10 years ago and works had started but were later halted due to flood at the site near the Tamparuli River although RM1.5 million had been spent.

It is said a new site has been identified for the project.

Musa, who attended Umno Kota Kinabalu Hari Raya open house at Wisma Pertanian here yesterday, said: “If we have promised, we must fulfill our promise.”

Meanwhile, Jahid said a new site had been identified to replace the flood-prone original site of the sports complex.

“In fact, nearly RM15 million had been approved for a sports complex about 10 years ago of which only RM1.5 million has been spent,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here.

Musa was among the guests.

Jahid said he was appealing to the Sabah government to approve funds to continue building a sports complex and said Tamparuli was also striving to become a destination for paragliding enthusiasts.

He said Tamparuli had a 1,000-meter high hill known as Bukit Ruhiang, which is popular among paragliding fans.

Besides the two open houses, the Chief Minister also attended similar celebrations in Kota Belud and Kudat yesterday.

He and his wife, Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Faridah Haji Tussin attended the open house hosted by Sabah Wanita Umno with cooperation of Felcra Bhd and Bernas Bhd at the Sabah Umno headquarters in Kota Kinabalu.

During the event, needy children from 17 Umno divisions throughout the state received Raya money.

Musa later headed to Kota Belud to attend an Aidilfitri celebration with Kota Belud Umno leaders at the Tempasuk UPKR office.

He also attended a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration hosted by Kudat Umno division at Tun Mustapha Hall in Kudat.

On Saturday, Musa and Faridah also attended the Aidilfitri celebration hosted by Umno Kota Kinabalu vice division chief Fatimah Shara Ahmad Noor and her husband Fariz Teo Abdullah at their residence in Luyang Perdana here.
