KUCHING: Open University Malaysia (OUM) Sarawak is offering a 75 per cent discount in tuition fees for physically challenged and senior citizens, revealed a statement from the university yesterday.

This offer is part of OUM’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) added the statement.

As part of its CSR as well, the university organised a Hari Raya open house for children from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Negeri Sarawak (Peryatim).

It was attended by 20 children from the association as well as OUM staff, tutors and alumni members.

The children were entertained by songs sang by OUM staff and given goody bags presented by OUM vice president (Learner Management and Campus Development) Prof Ir Dr Rosli Hamir.

In his speech, Rosli urged alumni members to continue supporting their alma mater in promoting the university to others.

“So far the alumni support in Sarawak has been very good and I would like to thank them. I would also like to request support in terms of marketing of the university,” he said.

According to Rosli, OUM Sarawak is the biggest campus outside its main campus in Kuala Lumpur.

“Despite being among the biggest, we only have 3,000 students which is much less than in Semenanjung. Therefore we need to
promote this university further to the people here,” he said.

Also present at the event were OUM Sarawak acting director Yon Rosli Daud and former director Prof Dr Frank Kiong.
