Penang Bernama bureau chief bags two USM media awards

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Bernama bureau chief Ariffin Azeman won two special jury awards for news and feature in Bahasa Melayu from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Media Awards.

Azeman, who collected RM1,700, said the victories were reflective of USM’s  endorsement on media write-ups and would help raise the morale of journalists in churning out news and features on science and technology and the university.

Azeman, who is attending a course in Melaka, was surprised when informed of his victories.

Two Berita Harian reporters, namely Amin Ridzuan Ishak and Faridzwan Abdul Ghafar bagged RM1,000 each when they won the best feature and news in Bahasa Melayu.

The USM Media Awards, which also gave recognition to news and feature writing in English and Chinese as well as electronic media, were presented by Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said here Sunday.

In his speech, Saifuddin hoped that ties between institutions of higher learning and the media should remained close as both parties were interdependent of each other.

USM vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak was present. — Bernama
