KOTA KINABALU: It was love at first sight, admitted the first runner-up of reality talent show Akademi Fantasia Season Three, Felix Agus, and it was no surprise that he chose to end bachelorhood with his die-hard fan, Lydia Larius, yesterday.

Spotted dashingly in a grey suit, Felix and his gorgeous bride exchanged their “I Do” vows in a simple-yet-memorable wedding ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church, here, with the presence of close family members and friends.

The lovebirds, who courted for six years, got engaged on September 18 last year, and tied the knot just a day short before their one-year engagement anniversary.

Reminiscing their first meeting yesterday, Felix, 29, said he just could not get Lydia, who is three years his junior, off his mind after setting eyes on her at the Sabah Cultural Centre in Penampang in 2005.

Summing up Lydia as “lawa” (beautiful), he said her eyes, personality and appearance had attracted his attention the most.

Lydia admitted to being Felix die-hard fan, adding: “I voted for him throughout the AF contest and kept track of him during the AF diaries. But back then, there was no feelings involved … it was purely at fan-celebrity level.”

After ‘graduating’ from AF, Felix went on a tour with the rest of the season three gang, and when news that they were going to make a stop in Sabah, Lydia, who is a dancer with the Sabah Cultural Board, took the effort to get a a glimpse of her favourite singer.

“I got his contact number from his village-mate. I called and texted him many times … my intention was just to meet up with him … but he kept giving me excuses.

“So one day, I found out that he was going to do a sound-check at the Sabah Cultural Board. So I told him that I would be there and described myself and the shirt I wore,” said Lydia.

Felix later added: “She told me she would be wearing an orange-coloured shirt. So while singing on stage, I was looking around for a girl in an orange shirt … I finally spotted her. So after the sound-check, I went up to her but did not greet her because I was still not too sure.

“So I raised my hand and pointed at her and she told me that it was her. That was our first meeting, I just fell in love with her there and then.”

The newly-weds decided to hold their wedding reception at the Sabah Cultural Board, to relive the moments where they first met and fell in love.

Asked on whether he was worried that marriage would affect his popularity, Felix replied: “Not at all. I guess for those who solely depend on singing as a career would feel the effect, but as for me, apart from singing, I am also earning a living as a deejay with KKFM.”

Felix added that he still entertains invitations to perform.

The couple plans to go for a honeymoon in November, but is still puzzled with the location.

“We were thinking of either going to Bali or Korea or Phuket … time will tell and we will make a decision soon,” he said.

Felix also said that as far as starting a family was concerned, he hoped that it would happen soon.

“We may have two or three children … yes, I think that is enough considering the high living cost today,” he said, jokingly.

They will also be holding another wedding reception at Felix’s hometown in Kota Belud on Sept 24.
