26 teams vie for honours in Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari

CLASS ACT: Team Usun United is the first raft to arrive at the Kapit Wharf.

KAPIT: The annual Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari, which was held from Sept 23 to 24, saw 26 teams fighting for honours along the Baleh and Rajang Rivers.

The first-leg of the race stretched from Rumah Ajai in Nanga Senuang, Sungai Majau to Rumah Anding in Nanga Sepuna, Mujong, which is 40km away.

The second day of the race was from Rumah Anding to the finishing point at Kapit Wharf – 20km away.

Using normal longboats, the journey from Rumah Ajai to Kapit Wharf is a six to seven-hour journey. It will take longer during dry spell as the boats need to be pulled through shallow waters.

Seven teams took part in the Men Open category, Men Closed (9), Free-style (4), Women Closed (5) and Tourism (1).

The initial results are as follows:

In the Free-style category – Usun United recorded 3:42.55 hours; in the Men Open category PBB recorded 4:29:49 hours; while in the Men Closed category Sempulang Gana F1 came in at 4:25.58 hours. In the Women Closed category PBB recorded 5:15:30 hours.
