KUCHING: Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Fatimah Abdullah yesterday applauded Sarawakian women for their sincere contribution towards nation building.

She said women in Sarawak are actively playing their roles in several fields such as the service industry and socio-politics.

“Their sincere contributions all these years are not so much in receiving awards but in improving the livelihood of the rakyat,” said Fatimah during the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri in Desa Guru yesterday.

As a minister in charge of women development in the state, Fatimah also said receiving an award from the head of state was the icing on the cake for the women who showed true passion in their roles.

She was referring to the Panglima  Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK) award carrying the title  ‘Datuk’  that was conferred on her by Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Mohammad Salahuddin earlier yesterday.

“It is important to be sincere and not to expect any kind of award as it could be disappointing if the award was never given,” she added.

Fatimah also noted that there is an increase in the number of women recipients as compared to previous years.

“I am very proud of Sarawakian women, even
though their recognition comes a bit late, it is not a problem as they are very sincere,” said Fatimah.

She also said that Sarawakian women would continue to contribute in whatever means to develop Sarawak.
