PENAMPANG: The president of United Pasokmomogun KadazanDusun Murut Organization (UPKO) Tan Sri Bernard Dompok yesterday raised the plight of citizens caught in religious controversies, at the party’s triennial delegates congress.

“I know of a family who have been unable to obtain birth certificates for their children because the wife is a Christian while the husband is deemed a Muslim by the authorities only because of the entry in his identity card,” Dompok said.

According to him, the husband has contended that he had never converted to Islam, was baptised a Christian and married in church.
