MIRI: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) is still not able to confirm whether it will recommend Mas Gading incumbent to defend the parliamentary seat in the coming election.
Its president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said they would first hold a discussion and conduct a survey on the issue.
“Until that is completed, we are not able to conclude if we will continue to nominate him.
“As I have said earlier, I am not able to finalise with regards to the Mas Gading candidate because we have never heard the status or the performance of the incumbent there and that’s Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe,” he told reporters here.
Dr Tiki is the party’s vice president and is one of those in the so-called `SPDP 5’.
Mawan was met at the recent get-together dinner organised by the Miri branch of Sarawak Kayan Association (PKS) here, where he was the guest-of-honour.
Asked on the party’s preparation for the election, the Pakan assemblyman quickly answered in jest: “Oh, that’s your angle to write your news stories yeah?”
He said they had already formed an election committee and appointed a director.
“We have identified the candidates to be recommended, except for one ….,” he added.
The identified candidates are Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan (Baram), Jelaing Mersat (Saratok) and Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (Bintulu).
Mawan was accompanied by Sagan and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and two political secretaries to the Chief Minister – Paul Igai and Robert Laing.
At the same function, Miri PKS chairman Philip Ngo, in his welcoming speech, announced that Mawan had been accepted by the association as a member of the Kayan community.
To commemorate that, he was ordained a Kayan name ‘Paran Ngau’, on recommendation by a Kayan community leader from Long Bemang, Penghulu Ngau Ajeng.
