Leave issue of second DPM to federal BN – Abg Johari

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday said he would leave it to the federal Barisan Nasional (BN) to decide the issue of having a second deputy president for the coalition.

“To me, what is needed now is to give focus to the country’s unity and build a peaceful and prosperous Malaysia. “Therefore, let the federal BN leadership decide on the matter,” he told reporters when met at Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) 47th convocation ceremony at the old state legislative assembly hall yesterday.

He added that state BN leaders had yet to decide on the matter.

“We have not decided on this matter because we are focusing on our state’s development. Furthermore, it is not necessary at the moment.”

Abang Johari was responding to the suggestion made by Upko president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok during the party’s recent triennial delegates’ conference that a second BN deputy president’s post be created to accommodate its component members from Sabah and Sarawak.

When asked to comment of PAS-DAP tussle on hudud, Abang Johari said: I rather not comment on their problems. Let them settle it themselves. These are all gimmick (by the opposition) just to run away from Mat Sabu issue.”

Meanwhile at the function, IKM Kuching deputy director Abdul Wahap Yusof said the nine major programmes offered by the institute were to meet current market demands.

Some of the programmes are Certificate in Welding Technology, Certificate in Vehicle Restoration, Certificate in Industrial and Domestic Engineering, Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Certificate in Automotive Engineering Technology and Certificate in Maritime Engineering.
