Not necessary yet to have second BN deputy chief — MP

KUCHING: Deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar thinks there is no need yet for Barisan Nasional (BN) to have a second deputy chairman.

He said this is because if such a post was to be filled by a representative from either Sarawak or Sabah, other states would most likely insist on having their own representatives to be second to national BN chairman.

“States like Johor or Pahang which are BN’s bastions would definitely want a big representation in the coalition,” he said.

He cited MCA’s landslide victory in Johor as the result of the strong cooperation given to the party by Umno and an example of BN’s might, which does not warrant the appointment of several more BN deputy chairmen.

The member of parliament for Santubong further stressed that the benefits from creating such posts would be uncertain in the present political landscape.

On a personal note, Wan Junaidi said although the suggestion to have a second deputy chairman for BN was well-intended it would not bring any positive impact to the country in the long run.
