PUTRAJAYA: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is flip-flopping on the hudud issue, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie, who is also Umno vice-president, said Anwar’s backtracking on the hudud issue showed he was afraid of upsetting the DAP.

“Threatened by the DAP that the party would pull out of the Pakatan coalition (made up of the PKR, DAP and PAS) if it favoured hudud laws, he caved in,” he said told reporters after attending Risda College’s 10th convocation here yesterday.

Anwar had been reported as saying that he personally supported the introduction of hudud laws in the country as called for by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat. — Bernama
