MARUDI: Nova Music Sendirian Berhad has agreed to pick up at least one of the contestants of the second Baram Idol as its recording artiste, a move considered by many as a major milestone in this singing competition.

Organising chairman Simon Suti who is also the acting station manager of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Miri said this was conveyed by the recording company’s composer Eddie Hamid who is also one of three judges for the competition which is being held here as part of the Baram Regatta
celebration.

The other two judges are Mimie Harris – a singer and actor from Kuala Lumpur – and Sarawak’s very own popular singer, Nai Dinamik.

“This is a major achievement for the organisers of the Baram Idol which among other things aims to scout potential singers and promote the music industry,” Simon told The Borneo Post after the conclusion of the semi-finals of the Baram Idol on Thursday night.

An Iban recording artiste from Bintulu, Robert Nell was among the seven who qualified for the finals.

Two others from Bintulu had also qualified – Allysa Joanne Jambie and Gazelina Veronica Mark. The other finalists included three from Miri – Bibiyanti Ali, Andy Hadrian Mamong and Douglas Dato Allie – and Kuching’s sole flag bearer Abang Abdul Hafiz Abang Bujang.

The assemblyman for Telang Usan, Dennis Ngau officiated at both the semi finals of the singing competition and the finals of the Sape competition on Thursday night that attracted over 2,000 people.

Among those present were the Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Robert Laing, Resident of Miri, Antonio Kahti Galis, Baram District Officer Joseph Belayong and Simon Suti.
