SRI AMAN: PRS Wanita chief Senator Doris Brodie is encouraging rural women to take up cottage industry to earn extra income and improve their socio-economic status.

“Venture into cottage industry as it is a platform to generate extra income,” she said when officiating the ‘Jejari Bestari’ programme organised by MPWK Sri Aman at Gua Dalam in Sri Aman recently.

She said that they must put their skills in making various traditional cakes, pickles and ‘keropok’ (snacks) to good use by going commercial.

She also told them that the lucrative cottage industry is suitable for them as it does not require big capital to start and one can work from home.

At the same time, Brodie advised them to appreciate and learn from the many programmes and policies implemented by the BN government as they were mostly women-friendly. She also cautioned them to be wary of the opposition’s tactics to win their votes.

Also present at the function was Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat.

Brodie later pledged a grant of RM2,000 to the village development and security committee (JKKK) of Rh Milu and RM3,000 to the village’s Biro Wanita while Masir pledged RM5,000 to their JKKK.
