KUCHING: SMK Asajaya 2 edged SMK Penrissen 20-17 in the Kota Samarahan CIMB-Cobra Under 16 Rugby League at Song Kheng Hai ground here yesterday.

SMK Asajaya Coach Wan Ahmad Ramzi when met said that the second fiddle team were made up of form 1 and form 2 students and had been training with his senior players who are already playing for Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC).

“That why you can see some of the boys were quite nervous and undecided of what to do because this is their first tournament and playing in the opening game,” he said.

This is a close game and my boys win the game because they are slightly better in term of experience when compare to their opponents,” Wan Ahmad enthused.

While in the second game between the host and organisers, SMK Asajaya and SMK Muara Tuang, the debutant in the game, the latter were simply outplayed by the former 60-0.

Asajaya vastly more experienced players were just too much for Muara Tuang to handle as most of the players have had at least 2 years of playing time and experience in the game, having played in the U-15’s tournament.

And some of them have also gained useful experience through playing with KRFC Black Cat over the last couple of years in the various club tournaments, and also at the Iskandar 10’s in Johor.

The first CIMB/Cobra U16 schools league for schools in Samarahan is participated by SMK Asajaya, SMK Asajaya 2, SMK Muara Tuang and SMK Penrissen No 1.
