SEPANG: A customs officer’s suspicion towards an Iranian woman carrying two baggage of clothes and packets of drinks led to the seizure of 1.9kg Syabu worth about RM475,000 recently.
KL International Airport (KLIA) customs director Datuk M Govinden said the incident happened at about 1am on Oct 1 when the customs officer was checking the contents of one of the woman’s baggage.
“The 24-year-old woman brought so much clothes, packets of drinks and food although she was holding a flight ticket dated seven days later.
“The suspicious officer then opened a packet of drink and was shocked to find syabu inside,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Govinden said the officer then found 27 small packets of syabu in each packets of Cappuccino and 36 packets of Coffemix.
This was the first time customs found drugs in packet of drinks and scanners at the airport could not detect them.
He believed that it involved careful planning and had the cooperation of the factory. The woman was remanded seven days to assist investigation.
The case was investigated under Section 39 B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. — Bernama
