Filipino jailed for stealing from shopping complex

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with stealing clothing items from a shopping complex here.

Mat Kasim Ibrahim, 23, was alleged to have stolen two pieces of T-shirts and two pairs of trousers worth RM270
from Metrojaya at Suria Sabah about 4.40pm on October 1, this year.

Magistrate Herlina Muse set November 9 to 10 this year for trial and ordered the accused to be remanded under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending the disposal of the case.

The accused, who was unrepresented, is liable to a jail term of up to 10 years and also liable to a fine, if found guilty of the alleged offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

In an unrelated case, Arman Ahmad, 27, Abdul Kid Alias, 32, Jamaliah Rusdi, 32, and Beaekenuer Sitim, 24, were sent behind bars for four months after they pleaded guilty to separate drug consumption charges.

All the accused were arrested at the Kota Kinabalu police station about 6.16pm on July 30, this year.

The court ordered Arman and Abdul Kid to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence for deportation as they are Filipinos who have entered the country illegally.

Each of the accused was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or a jail term of up to two years, or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted the cases.
