KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday reminded members of Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties not to regard themselves as ‘winnable’ candidates and sabotage the coalition if they are not selected to contest in the next general election.

The Umno president and BN chairman said all the BN candidates to be fielded would be the best candidates who have ‘winnable’ qualities, selected after a systematic and thorough review.

“If we want to ensure victory, we must field winnable candidates,” he said at an information session of the Federal Territory BN at the Putra World Trade Centre attended by 8,000 FT BN leaders and members.

Najib said he did not wish to see anyone creating problems and factions within the parties or causing discord among BN component parties just because their choice for candidate is not selected.

The prime minister said he had learnt from his 35 years of experience in politics that sabotage could be carried out openly or subtly.

Najib advised all BN component parties to close ranks and step up their mental preparedness to face the next general election.

“Do not create factions in the parties. Do not sabotage one another. If we want to win, we have to do it the winnable way. We must not quarrel among ourselves,” he said.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, BN information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan and FT Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin were also present at the event. — Bernama
