KUCHING: A car caught fire at Jalan Setia Raja bridge yesterday morning while its driver from Kampung Tabuan Melayu was on his way to work.
The 28-year-old quickly stopped by the roadside and got out from the car whereupon he saw smoke coming up from the dashboard.
The incident happened at about 9am yesterday.
Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched a team to the scene and it put out the fire but the car was burned.
The incident caused traffic congestion at the bridge.
The man later made a police report and his Proton Iswara was towed to the police station.
In an unrelated matter, a car collided with a van coming out from a junction at Sungai Moyan, Batu Kawah, around 10pm on Sunday. Six passengers and the car driver escaped unhurt.
A 38-year-old woman was sent to hospital as she developed chest pain after the accident. However, nothing seemed to be wrong with her on checking.
