Farmer decapitated, son injured in motorbike-lorry collision

KUCHING: A padi farmer was decapitated while his teenage son sustained a broken leg during a head-on collision with a lorry at Simunjan on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as Charles Agul, was on his way back to his house after fetching his 15-year-old son from school when the incident happened around 5pm.

According to sources, the lorry heading in the opposite direction swerved to avoid a large pothole but crashed into Charles’ motorcycle instead.

The impact not only decapitated the farmer, but also severed one of his arms and caused his son to be flung from the machine fracturing his right leg.

The body of the farmer, in his 40s, was sent to the mortuary here for post mortem.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man from Kampung Serayan in Lundu was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a garbage bin late Thursday night.

The deceased, Chong Chung Ngee, was on his way back to his house when the incident happened at KM18.5 Bau-Lundu road around 11.30pm. He died on the spot from serious head injuries.

Meanwhile, a third fatal accident claimed the life of a 49-year-old motorcyclist from Sungai Moyan in Batu Kawa here yesterday.

The incident happened around 11.30am when the deceased, a construction worker identified as Lai Boo, was struck by a pickup truck while on his way to a petrol station in Batu Kawa.

Members of the public claimed the pickup driver failed to stop following the accident and continued on to a traffic light intersection at Jalan Stephen Yong where pursuing motorists caught up with him.

He then made his way to the Batu Kawa police station after being advised by the public to lodge a report concerning the fatal collision.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem.
