KOTA KINABALU: A housewife was seriously injured in an armed robbery at her home in Kampung Lokub, Sepanggar early yesterday and was admitted to the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Norsimah Amir, 30, was slashed with what is believed to be a machete while struggling with a robber who broke into her home around 6.30am.

The assailant inflicted deep wounds in her neck when she tried to prevent him from grabbing her gold necklace.

After the man fled through the kitchen door with some jewelry and money, the victim managed to stagger to the adjacent home of her brother-in-law to seek help.

She was taken to the Likas Hospital before being transferred to the QEH.

Her brother-in-law, Fitri Marjatin, 25, said he only realized what had happened when he heard a loud knock on his front door.

“When I opened the door, I was shocked to see my sister-in-law lying on the floor in a pool of blood,” he said.

“I asked her what happened and who did this to her and she said “Ibnu yang buat” (Ibnu did this),” said Fitri when met at the scene yesterday.

According to Fitri, ‘Ibnu’ is the name of a known drug addict in the village.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria, who was met at the scene, said initial police investigation showed that the assailant entered the house with the intention to rob.

“The victim who was in the house with her three children, aged three to five, suffered injuries when she put up a fight with the suspect,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt in committing robbery.
