SIBU: Thieves turned to mischief, spraying graffiti on a car after breaking into a semi-detached double-storey house at Pipit Road on Friday night.

INSULT TO INJURY: Thieves left a can of spray on the windscreen after the mischief.

The 50-something landlord said six tenants from Peninsular Malaysia running a direct sales business had gone outstation in a car on Friday morning.

“I believe the thieves struck in the night when the occupants were away,” he said, showing reporters the signs of break-in.

He said a neighbour who smelt the odour from the spray checked on his house that night.

“The neighbour did not suspect something amiss as the occupants were all out and the house in darkness, as all the lights in the house were switched off until the next morning,” he said.

The landlord said the neighbour rang to inform him of the break-in at noon the following day.

He believes the thieves struck in the dark.

The gate and many of the doors in the house were pried open and the house ransacked.

The thieves rummaged through all the rooms on the upper floor, creating a mess.

According to the landlord, some goods worth a few hundreds ringgit were not stolen.

A car in the porch was sprayed with abusive images.  The car porch itself was splashed with inflammable oil.

He was unsure whether the goods were stolen because the tenants could not be contacted.

The landlord had rented the house to the six persons for more than a year.  Last year, a car was reported stolen from the house, he revealed.
