MISRATA: Muammar Gaddafi’s body has a bullet in the head and a bullet in the abdomen, a medical source said on Sunday. Earlier, a doctor involved in an overnight autopsy on the former Libyan leader’s body said he had died from a gunshot wound, the Times of India reported. “There are multiple injuries. There is a bullet in the abdomen and in the brain,” the medical source said. The autopsy was carried out at a morgue in the city of Misrata. Officials said Gaddafi’s body would now be brought back to the cold store at an old market in Misrata where it has been on public display.

The autopsy confirmed that Gaddafi died from a gunshot to the head, the country’s chief pathologist said on Sunday. International concern about the circumstances of Gaddafi’s death and indecision over what to do with his remains overshadowed the declaration of liberation in in Libya.

The 69-year-old was captured wounded, but alive on Thursday in his hometown of Sirtes. Bloody images of Gaddafi being taunted and beaten by his captors have raised questions about whether he was killed in crossfire as suggested by government officials or deliberately executed.
