Chinese schools present memorandum to Soon Koh

MIRI: The Board of Management of Sarawak United Association of Chinese Primary Aided School Boards of Management yesterday presented a memorandum on Chinese education affair to Senior Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Its president, Liu Thian Leong, presented the memorandum to the minister during a dialogue session with him at Imperial Hotel here.

In the memorandum, the association listed seven items on Chinese education in the state as reference for the state special committee on education.

One of the items involves the formulation of a comprehensive strategy in order to secure sufficient allocation from the federal ministry of education to finance for relocation of Chinese schools, building extension, rebuilding, repairing and the construction of new schools and Chinese school licensing fee.

Another item in the memorandum involves the proposal to secure a yearly RM10 million allocation to Chinese schools for education purposes.

Another item requests Dato Sri Wong to be the minister in-charge of Chinese education in the state and that he must have a dialogue session with them twice a year.

They also want the government to solve the shortage of teachers in Chinese schools with strong emphasis on
Chinese pre-education and the allocation of RM2 million to defray the association’s various education-related activities.
