ALOR SETAR: The Fire and Rescue Department has reminded owners to obtain fire certification from the department for their buildings for between six months and a year.

Its deputy director-general (development), Amer Yusof, said the department had identified 114 of 229 buildings as having received certification, as of last month.

He said the certification was to ensure the buildings which were occupied, had specific standards, including fire-fighting appliances.

“The owners of those buildings without certification are liable to face action under Section 7 of the Fire and Rescue Act,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on fire safety here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Amer said the department was equipped with 40 boats, vehicles and a helicopter, in the event of flooding in the state. — Bernama
