SUNGAI PETANI: MyAgrosis, a club comprising agriculture graduate entrepreneurs will undertake to develop vacant or abandoned land in higher learning institutions (IPTA) as vegetable farms, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said.

For a start, the club would plant a variety of greens, as suggested by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“We want such land to be utilised considering that 60 per cent of vegetables produced in the country are planted in squatter areas and there had been no large-scale farming,” he said, citing the 68.8ha vacant land at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Merbok that the club would focus on.

With proper planning, the endeavour could be implemented via contract-farming, he told reporters after launching the Kedah MyAgrosis Club at UiTM Merbok yesterday. — Bernama
