Ting: SNAP’s Dundang and Jugol must step down

BINTULU: Sarawak National Party (SNAP) president Edwin Dundang and secretary-general Stanley Jugol are urged to step down gracefully so that the new leaders would be able to rebuild the party into a formidable force.

Ting Ling Kiew, who insisted he was still the deputy president, said that anything less would risk the party being deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) especially if the leadership crisis was allowed to continue.

He also called on the ROS to conduct an immediate investigation into the party for the conduct of triennial general assembly (TGA) which was postponed recently.

“Dundang and Jugol, who were elected into their respective posts in 2002, had contested and lost in all three elections since.

“If they are responsible gentlemen and love the party they should step down now. Enough is enough. Give way to Michael Lias and his group to handle SNAP from now on,” he said.

Ting said that before the TGA on Sept 24 and 25, Lias had the majority support from the central executive committee (CEC) and therefore had the right to helm the party.

He said that based on the party constitution, delegates to the TGA must come from the divisions.

“Before the TGA one must call for the divisional meeting and select delegates to the TGA.

“But not him (Dundang), he took all the CEC members and all 26 individuals who stood in the last state election many of whom were his relatives to the TGA.

“On Sept 24, they called for an emergency CEC meeting to ‘unofficially’ postpone the TGA. The reason: That Michael Lias was a member of People’s Progressive Party (PPP).

“They postponed the TGA not because of Lias being with PPP, but because they knew that Jugol could not win against him (Lias),” Ting alleged.

Ting also claimed that his sacking as deputy president was illegal and demanded that he be informed of any meetings called by the CWC.

Speaking through his lawyer Ernest Chua of Ernest Chua and Company, Ting requested that Jugol inform him of future CWC meetings as “he is still the deputy president. Failing which he will take legal action”.
