Adopt holistic, integrated approach in planning future power supply — Ku Li

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia should adopt a holistic and integrated approach in planning for future electricity supply, said Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah yesterday.

He said this included not only a secured supply at affordable costs but also issues that affected development such as income distribution and sustainability as well as growing concern such as environmental degradation and carbon emissions.

“In achieving a robust framework within which this can be done, we must learn from the successes and mistakes of the past,” he said.

Razaleigh said this in his speech at officiating Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja’s Living and Learning Aids project here.

Razaleigh said in meeting future electricity demand, it was imperative to have an open and transparent tender process for future independent power producer (IPP) arrangements.

He said this would allow for more competitive pricing of electricity while also meeting requirements for clean, secure and sustainable energy sources.

“A relatively lower profit margin should therefore be negotiated with these IPPs in the interest of the nation, which could translate into unit cost savings for consumers,” he said.

Earlier, Razaleigh presented hearing and learning aids, custom-made spectacles and wheelchairs to handicapped children. — Bernama
