More land to be privatised — Husni

KUALA LUMPUR: The government plans to dispose several government-owned land in the country to the private sector to raise more funds for economic development, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said.

He said the land parcels measuring between three and seven acres each, would easily raise a total of RM1.2 billion.

Many of the government owned land have seen an increase in value, he said, citing the land along the River of Life project as an example.

“We are not going to utilise it (the land). So why don’t we privatise it and sell the land to the private sector to do (develop) it,” he told reporters after delivering a keynote address at the MIA-AFA Conference 2011, here yesterday.

River of Life, a project which is aimed at revitalising the Klang and Gombak rivers into a vibrant and livable waterfront with high economic value, is an Entry Point Project under the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley National Key Economic Area.

Husni said the government has identified several other parcels of land to be disposed, including a piece of land owned by the government through the Malaysian Rubber Board. — Bernama
